Patama Roonrakwit studied architecture at Silpakorn University (Bangkok) and CENDEP, Oxford Brookes University. Her master’s project was titled “A traditional-based low-cost housing design for low-income people in Thailand.” In private practice, she has completed a number of residential and resort projects. Roonrakwit is currently the Managing Director of Community Architects for Shelter and Environment (CASE), which she founded in 1997. The group works with a humanitarian and anthropological approach to creating appropriate housing for the urban poor in informal settlements. CASE projects involve community members as participants in the process of improving their shelter and environment – with surveying and mapping a community, group meetings and workshops, and the completion of a new home. Roonrakwit is also a Global Tutor for Oxford Brookes University’s Centre for Development and Emergency Planning. She has delivered many guest lectures at Thai universities.
