Jacques Ferrier studied architecture at the Ecole Centrale de Paris and UPA 8. He created his own studio in 1990, and works in France and abroad. His works include public facilities, cultural buildings, major infrastructure buildings, research centres, and urban development. The studio’s output is all based on the same philosophy: the creation of architecture for a sustainable society. In parallel, Ferrier has developed research activity in partnership with industrial companies. His projects, which include the Concept Office and the ecological Hypergreen skyscraper, initiated a reflection on the future role of architecture that takes into consideration the challenges of megalopolises. His optimist and humanist vision of the future city culminates in the French Pavilion for Shanghai Expo 2010 through the theme of the “Sensual City,” prefiguring a man-made environment where nature and senses take a major place. Ferrier is a Professor of Architecture.
