Melvin H J Tan is an architect and a photographer. In this special seminar for ArchiFest, he will present and discuss both his architectural and photography works, and offer insights gained from practice in both professions.
Melvin will discuss the issues pertaining to the relationship between the architect as author and photographer – as “representer” of the same architectural work. How does the architect convey the design intent to a photographer? And how does the photographer respond to the spatial qualities of the architecture? Melvin will also offer technical advice and tips to architects seeking to document their own work, or photo-enthusiasts interested in the built-form. The talk is for architects who want to learn to stretch their mileage with a photographer, and for photographers seeking to bring their architectural photography to the next level.
Melvin is a director of LAUD Architects Pte Ltd, which undertakes a range of local and foreign projects, including residential, civic, and hotel developments. The firm also specialises in churches. Melvin’s architectural photography works have been featured in Architectural Review, Casabella, Hinge, AV monografias, Singapore Architect, and other publications.
Melvin will be available for (architecture and photography) portfolio reviews at the seminar.
