The newly opened 54–56 Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock is a unique academic resource for TTCL Centre of NUS Department of Architecture (DOA). It is tasked to advance the area of excellence in the study of historical architecture and urban environments of Asia. The buildings were generously donated to the DOA by Tun Tan Cheng Lock’s daughter, Ms Agnes Tan, in 2004.

These two buildings will become exemplar and pedagogical demonstrations of sensitive conservation, preservation and adaptive re-use of heritage and historical environments. Through two broad categories of activities (as a Field School and as a Resource Centre), it is intended to enrich and to leverage the Department’s undergraduate and graduate architectural programmes.  This tour and visit is envisaged to enliven and promote broad public and academic interests in the significance of Melaka under the consideration of Asian architectural and urban heritage.
