APPENDIX

The objective of the competition is to unearth good ideas to benefit the Marine Terrace community and envision how the ground plan at blocks may be used.

THE SITE

Blk 51 Marine Terrace faces the main road of Marine Parade, and is situated 2 blocks away from Marine Parade Town Council, Marine Parade Hawker Centre and a central plaza. Existing facilities in the area include a Family Service Centre, barrier-free access features, void deck shops, playgrounds, reflexology spots, and community gardens at other blocks in the vicinity.

Blk 51 is a rental block, housing seniors, families and singles. Within the estate, there are residents who work within the estate as cleaners, helpers, amongst working parents and mothers. Retired residents congregate at chess areas during the day, or at the neighborhood shops. Community activities such as excursions, exercise groups, line dancing, taichi, active ageing and other social programmes are run by the Town Council & Family Service Centre.

In the future, there are plans to create a Senior Activity Centre at a section of the void deck. As such, to preserve space for void deck events such as weddings and funerals, the allotted area for the competition is at the lift landing and grass patch in front of the block facing the car park.
