Detour represents the fusion of experimental architecture in magnificent natural settings along popular tourist routes in Norway. Striking shapes and forms, interesting materials, and bold colours are used to add a new dimension to motorists' experience of Norway's natural landscape. The innovative constructions allow tourists to get off the road, experience stunning scenery, and find peace and tranquility.
The locations – lookout points, picnic areas, service and rest areas – are part of the National Tourist Routes. A total of 18 National Tourist Routes will be developed by 2015. The project covers 1850 kilometres of road.
