How common a sight this is! And yet, every unit does something different with the common corridor space in front of its door. And behind every door, each life lived there is precious and unique to the person living it.

Theme: Uncommon Spaces

A picture is worth a thousand words. This year, ArchiFest’11 is organizing a photography competition. Express your thoughts and creativity through photography. We welcome fun and original ideas of your own interpretation of the theme “Uncommon Spaces”.

ArchiFest 2011 explores Common Spaces, what to most of us, are public places where we behave and present ourselves according to social norms. Nothing out of the ordinary is expected to happen, making them dull and simply a background of our everday life.

But the increasing use of social media in our lives has blurred our sense of what is ‘public’ and what is ‘private’. Our behaviours in virtual and public spaces have also become less distinct.

This year’s photography competition for ArchiFest sets you on a search for ‘Un-Common Spaces’. Stop and take a second look around you, and you might just see a bunch of youngsters ‘planking’, a cobbler along the walkway or line dancers practising at a shopping plaza — unexpected uses of ordinary places.

Through your photos, bring out the unseen and unpredictable in this city, showing how un-common our common spaces really are.
