14-24 Oct .The Plaza, National Library
The first project for the Year 2 programme, 4x8x12x10x12, intended for students to encounter with the limit of material and design architecture through such limit. Provided with ten sheets of plywood (4 feet x 8 feet x 12 mm) each, twelve groups of students cut, curved, spliced, burned and jointed them while being tortured back by their stubbornness and fragility. Although being surprised with the unexpected nature of the plywood, students straightaway turned it to a strategy for construction. The structures that emerged through such process should embody profound expression of architecture rather than reiterate neat formalism.
